Course Description
New Venture Creation 

Duration – two semesters, weekly in-person lectures. This module will cover a diverse range of disciplines as it highlights the universal needs of small enterprises. It will take theories from a broad spectrum of academics and apply them to the practical realities of new and emerging companies. The course is firmly focused on providing the knowledge and developing the skills required to establish a business in Ireland. The main thrust of the module is to develop in the student an understanding of the total skill and knowledge base requirements that are necessitated when establishing one’s own enterprise. This will integrate with their overall marketing studies to educate them in their learning of the particular needs of small businesses.

Learning outcomes:

(1) Apply knowledge of entrepreneurship skills to organise an event that raises money for charity,

(2) Generate and evaluate an array of business ideas, and effectively communicate the selected idea,

(3) Diagnose the different activities involved in starting a business,

(4) Evaluate the wide variety of sources of assistance available when starting a business, and

(5) Construct a full business plan.
