The aim of this course is to familiarize students with various methodologies and principles of Mecahtronics as the point of intersection of the Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Science. This course includes the following: (a) Modeling, analysis and control of Mechatronic systems: bond graphs, state space representation, controllability and observability, PID control and state space controller design. (b) Sensors: Linear and rotational, acceleration, force, torque and power, flow, temperature, distance and proximity, light detection/image and vision systems. (c) Actuators: Electromechanical, electric machines, piezoelectric, hydraulic and pneumatic. (d) Electronics for Mechatronic systems: Passive elements, diodes, transistors, operational amplifiers, digital logic and systems. (e) Microcomputers and programming: Introduction to the C programming language, microcontroller programming for controlling Mechatronic systems, programmable logic controllers
Prerequisite/s: MEM_322 Automatic Control I, MEM_245 Introduction to Electrical Engineering
