Course Description
Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

The course will demonstrate the development and importance of social responsibility (SR) in Latvia and the world and explore public views on the social responsibility of organizations by analyzing situations of moral conflict. It will present business ethics as an interdisciplinary academic field, provide insight into business-related ethical problems, and introduce a modern approach to solving problems inherent in business relationships.

Key learning outcomes:

The student is able to describe the theories and principles of business ethics, is able to use the acquired knowledge in making moral decisions and developing various solutions in typical business environment problem situations. Understands the compromises that an organization will have to face in order to combine and simultaneously implement its “civic” (social) role and commercial activities. Is able to transform these compromises into opportunities for both the organization and society. Is able to use the main approach tools to create an environment of mutual trust and respect in the organization, implement a socially responsible operating strategy and inform the public about it.
