Presentation of the fundamental concepts and tools used by businesses and investors when making financial decisions. The course includes lectures and exercises on:
1) financial institutions, markets, and securities in the Republic of Cyprus,
2) loanable funds model, determinants of interest rates, yield curves, current vs future interest rates,
3) Greek and Cypriot financial crisis,
4) time value of money and applications,
5) private and business loans,
6) types, pricing and returns of bonds,
7) stock valuation and assessment,
8) measurement of investment risk,
9) application of portfolio theory,
10) capital asset pricing model (CAPM),
11) capital investment appraisal and cash flow estimation,
12) non-performing loans and methods for dealing with them.
Students will learn how financial decisions are made using valuation tools, risk measurement, portfolio theory, and capital investment assessment. They will understand financial markets, interest rates, bonds, stocks, and loans, and will develop the ability to analyze investments, evaluate returns, apply time value of money, and interpret financial crises and policies affecting business environments.
